Ayurveda @ Saratha Vilas

Ayurveda is the practice of Traditional Indian medicine; “Ayur” meaning life, and “Veda,” knowledge. It is an ancient science that fortunately remains very much alive and is widespread across South Asia. Ayurveda and its methods continue as a regular form of medical treatment in India and its benefits are recognized by the medical world globally. Laboratories are working to develop new products for this industry and across the world, clinics prescribe according to ayurvedic traditions as well.
Ayurveda is a life practice and of treatment method that seeks to restore an equilibrium of the different components of the body. As a life practice it promotes moderation of intake of chemical substances and serious followers avoid alcohol and tobacco completely. The treatments are comprised of medicinal plants which can be administered in many different forms, although the main method is through massage using oils with the appropriate natural ingredients steeped within.
We offer 6 or 9-day cures that consist of combination of massages practiced on the whole body with techniques and preparations that differ according to the treatments, Abhyanga, Sirodhara, Navarakizhi or Pizhchil. Saratha Vilas uses two confirmed practitioners who have followed the teaching of Ayurvedic practice in Kerala. The doctor who follows the cures is part of a long line of Ayurvedic doctors.

The different treatments offered in the form of a 6 or 9-day cure:

ABHYANGA ~ Ayurvedic body massage Oils in which medicinal herbs have been infused are slightly heated and then applied to the skin. The massage is deeply relaxing: it balances, eliminates fatigue and toxins, and revitalizes the body as a whole. The massage brings calm and energy.

SIRODHARA ~ forehead bath with warm Ayurvedic oils. This massage requires the presence of the practitioner and an assistant. A trickle of oil with infused herbs is gently spread on your forehead continuously. The rocking movement given to the trickle of oil provides an astonishing and deep feeling of peace and relaxation.

NAVARAKIZHI ~ massage with medicinal roots infused in cow’s milk This massage eliminates heat from the body and allows the opening of microcells and their proper functioning. The body eliminates toxins by repeatedly applying tampons made of medicinal herbs infused in cow’s milk. This treatment is recommended for rheumatism, muscle problems, blood pressure and sleep disorders. In general, it regenerates the body by making it more flexible and helps reduce swelling in the joints.

PIZHICHIL ~ anointing with medicinal oil on the whole body Ayurvedic massage based on warm medicinal oils poured on the body in a continuous manner. The masseur dips a cloth in the oil and presses it above the body to spread a trickle of oil with relaxing effects. Pizhichil is a soothing and rejuvenating Ayurvedic treatment preserving and promoting optimal health.

Yoga @ Saratha Vilas

We have been organizing Yoga retreats since 2012.
The Saratha Vilas is the ideal place to practice Yoga. With only 10 rooms, it is quite easy to privatize the whole mansion. With its gardens and courtyards, Saratha Vilas can function much like a monastery for the time of a retreat. Of course, there are many activities outside of Yoga for those who love peace, heritage and nature.
Yoga is generally practiced in the large hall with an area of 300 m² (See Saratha Vilas Main Hall) but other areas are available for the practice such as the main courtyard of the platform on the pool side.
Saratha Vilas is now also proposing daily hour practice with our in-house traditional Hatha yoga instructor.
If you have a project, let us know well in advance. To benefit from attractive rates the best periods are: end of March to beginning of April, July, end of August to end of October and beginning of December. These are times when the climate is pleasant and when we are less busy.
